A pared-back revisit of the 1963 chypre frame — bergamot at the top, jasmine threading the heart, leather and patchouli laying the base.

By the editors · 2 min readA pared-back revisit of the 1963 chypre frame — bergamot at the top, jasmine threading the heart, leather and patchouli laying the base. The construction is intentionally minimalist, four notes carrying the whole arc.
The leather reads dry and slightly smoked rather than animalic, and the patchouli underneath is earthy but restrained. Together they form a quiet, modern chypre skeleton.
The jasmine is the softening element, keeping the leather civilized; the bergamot gives the opening a brief lift before the woody-leather core takes over. It dries down close, sober, and suits cool-weather evenings, formal contexts, or wearers who treat fragrance as a structural rather than expressive choice.
