By the editors · 2 min readNew Look is Francis Kurkdjian's 2024 entry in Dior's La Collection Privée, named for the silhouette that made the house in 1947. The construction is deliberately spare: aldehydes open with a waxy, slightly soapy luminosity before frankincense takes over — resinous and bone-dry rather than ceremonial. Amber closes the composition with minimal sweetness.
With only three disclosed notes, New Look reads as a study in restraint, each element permitted to be fully itself without competition. The aldehydes read less as a nod to classic French perfumery and more as an architectural decision — a way to make frankincense feel lifted rather than heavy. Suited to those who find most fragrances excessive.
