By the editors · 2 min readSOUND & FOG opens on sea salt — stark, oceanic, and slightly mineral. It reads as genuinely salty rather than calone-fresh, establishing a harsh, textured quality that primes what follows.
Vetiver, benzoin, saffron, tobacco, and coffee form the base — a dark, dense foundation. Benzoin adds balsamic sweetness and incense-like warmth; tobacco contributes cured smokiness; saffron introduces leathery, slightly medicinal spice; coffee deepens the dark roasted quality; and vetiver grounds it all with earthy smokiness.
A salty marine opening over a dark, resinous, smoky base — deliberately confrontational. The contrast between the cold sea salt top and the warm complex dark base creates real tension. Suited to evening or cool weather where its density is appropriate.
