By the editors · 2 min readThe Guerlinade shimmer—bergamot, iris, vanilla—runs through this like a golden thread, but the tonka bean dominates with unusual force. Where classic Shalimar floats on incense and balmy vanilla, Millésime Tonka anchors itself in the warm, hay-like sweetness of tonka, softened by a modest rose and a powdery iris that never quite blooms into full expression. The bergamot disappears almost immediately, leaving the composition to its plush, caramelized heart.
This feels like Shalimar viewed through a contemporary lens: less resinous drama, more cocooning sweetness. The vanilla remains, but it's muted, allowing the tonka's almond-like richness to take center stage. It wears close, almost gourmand but restrained enough to avoid dessert territory.
For those who find original Shalimar too austere or animalic, this offers a gentler entry point—warmer, simpler, decidedly modern. It loses some of the original's mystique in exchange for wearability.
