By the editors · 2 min readThe opening is boozy and warm, touched with a resinous sweetness that veers close to Port wine without smelling edible. Labdanum anchors the heart with its leathery amber richness, while benzoin and vanilla soften the edges into something between church incense and old wood paneling in a wine cellar.
This is a grown-up gourmand with none of the cupcake sweetness that phrase usually implies. The vanilla here reads more balsamic than sugary, folding into the benzoin's caramel-like depth. It wears close to the skin but lingers tenaciously.
Best for cooler weather and solitary evenings. It has the contemplative quality of something you'd wear while reading by lamplight, perhaps with a glass of something fortified nearby.
