By the editors · 2 min readEau de Minuit (Midnight Fragrance) is the original 1997 wearing a velvet hood. Anise still announces itself at the top, but it's framed by myrrh and ivy this time — the bright violet-pineapple sparkle of the parent traded for something dustier and more nocturnal.
The heart goes powder: violet, iris, jasmine, soft and slightly damp, like the same flowers under candlelight. The licorice persists but has been muted; the gourmand dessert that the parent serves up has been swapped for something closer to incense and ash.
Tonka and vanilla in the base anchor it back to family lineage and keep it warm. Not as theatrical as the original, more wearable in evening settings. Fall and winter, after sundown. Reads most clearly to people who already know the 1997 by heart.
