By the editors · 2 min readIllusions Noires Au Masculin is the 2001 Au Masculin recast in shadow. Anise and ivy still open the show, but the wormwood and basil of the original are gone — what remains is cleaner, more austere, and angled toward smoke instead of liqueur.
Licorice carries the heart, more black sambuca than rum-soaked cake this time. Myrrh and oud sit beside it as a kind of resinous incense pairing, dry and stony, with the licorice flickering through. The composition is more obviously gothic than the parent and a touch less gourmand.
Vetiver and a faintly saline, oily woody base — the house's much-cited 'olive tree' accord — finish the trail. Cold-weather, low-key projection. Better for a leather-jacket dinner than a cocktail bar.
