By the editors · 2 min readStar anise opens with a sharp, licorice-tinged brightness that cuts through the air—almost medicinal at first, softened slightly by bergamot's citrus glow. It's an unusual beginning, more herbal pharmacy than conventional masculinity, and it sets the tone for everything that follows.

As it settles, tonka bean arrives with its almond-sweet warmth, smoothing the edges while clary sage adds an aromatic, almost lavender-like depth. The interplay feels quietly unconventional, sweet but not cloying, grounded by sage's herbal restraint. This middle phase is where the fragrance finds its balance—softer than the opening suggests, but still maintaining that peculiar spiced character.

The base moves into familiar territory: creamy sandalwood, earthy vetiver, and clean musk create a polite, wearable finish. It's a fragrance that begins boldly and ends gently, suited to someone comfortable with fragrances that don't announce themselves loudly but still leave an impression. The anise signature lingers faintly, a reminder of its unconventional start.
