By the editors · 2 min readCairo opens with a rush of warm saffron and rose, steeped in frankincense smoke that immediately conjures incense-filled souks and shuttered alcoves. The spice here isn't delicate—it's honeyed, resinous, almost sticky with intent. Within minutes, the frankincense settles into a soft haze while labdanum and vanilla emerge, rounding the sharper edges into something more enveloping.
The base reveals its true character: creamy sandalwood anchored by cedar and patchouli, all sweetened by vanilla that never tips into dessert territory. The rose, initially prominent, becomes a backdrop—more memory than flower. What remains is a woody amber cocoon with just enough spice to keep it from going too soft.
Cairo suits those who want Oriental warmth without overwhelming heaviness. It feels composed rather than wild, more library than bazaar, though the incense never quite lets you forget its inspiration.
