By the editors · 2 min readYlang-ylang opens with its characteristic creamy floralcy, but here it's given unusual weight—less tropical exuberance, more golden depth. The vanilla that follows isn't the sweet dessert accord many expect, but rather a resinous, almost leathery interpretation that shares space with the ylang rather than overwhelming it. Together they create something darkly floral, bordering on narcotic.

As it settles, sandalwood and amber provide a smooth, nearly seamless foundation. The musk remains close to the skin, adding warmth without powder. This is vanilla approached from an unexpected angle—woody, slightly mysterious, more suited to evening than afternoon. It wears best in cooler weather, where its richness doesn't become cloying.

Vanille de Tahiti works for those who find most vanilla fragrances too obviously sweet but still want that recognizable comfort. It has presence without volume, lasting well but never shouting.
