Abaton
Chinotto from Savona, made into scent.
Abaton was founded in 2018 by the Abaton brothers, drawing creative direction from their roots in Savona, Liguria, the Italian coastal city historically tied to Chinotto cultivation. The house's defining concept is the translation of Chinotto — the bitter-citrus Italian soft drink made from the Myrtle-leaved orange tree — into fine fragrance. Rather than simply rendering citrus, Abaton explores the full sensory complexity of the Chinotto experience: the bitterness of the rind, the herbal-resinous body, the slightly medicinal sweetness of the bottled beverage. The approach positions food and beverage culture as a legitimate source for olfactory composition, creating fragrances that are simultaneously unusual and deeply rooted in Italian regional identity. The house has found an audience among fragrance enthusiasts attracted to the culinary and unconventional. Distribution spans Italian boutiques and the North American niche market through the brand's US-oriented website.
