Affinessence
Fine fragrance without the pyramid.
Affinessence was founded in 2015 by Sophie Bruneau in France as a house explicitly structured around rejecting the classical top–heart–base fragrance pyramid. Bruneau, who trained in fragrance creation before establishing the house, formulates compositions intended to read as integrated, non-sequential experiences — fragrances that exist as complete, coherent entities from first contact rather than unfolding through sequential phases. The house's collections are built around single dominant materials: sandalwood, oud, vetiver, leather, vanilla — each explored with depth and without competing narrative arcs. Releases such as Bois Cachemire and Oud-Cashmere have developed devoted followings within the French niche community for their material clarity and rich, sustained evolution on skin. The aesthetic is deliberately minimal and serious, attracting fragrance enthusiasts who prioritize material quality and conceptual coherence over complexity for its own sake. Affinessence distributes through French boutiques and select international niche retailers.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
