ALTAIA
Olfactory fragments of a shared Argentine and English family history.
ALTAIA — an acronym for 'A Long Time Ago In Argentina' — was founded by Sebastian Alvarez Murena and Marina Sersale, the duo also behind Eau d'Italie, following a remarkable personal discovery: that their families had been connected in nineteenth-century Argentina generations before the founders themselves met and married in 2012. The revelation that General Bartolomé Mitre (Alvarez Murena's great-great-grandfather) and James Morrison (Marina's great-great-grandfather) shared historical entanglement became the seed of a fragrance collection rooted in collective memory and family mythology. Launched in 2015 and presented at Pitti Fragranze, ALTAIA approaches perfumery as a form of ancestral storytelling, with each fragrance drawing on the intertwined Argentine and English histories that produced its founders. The house distributes through specialist retailers including Les Senteurs in London, appealing to fragrance enthusiasts drawn to the particular emotional weight of scent conceived as biographical and historical document.

Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
