Animale
Animale launched in 1987 under Swiss-born, Houston-based entrepreneur Suzanne de Lyon, whose background in international trade and finance gave the venture a commercial pragmatism unusual for an independent fragrance debut. The flagship eau de parfum — released with a lightning-bolt bottle in vivid pink, cobalt, and turquoise — captured the maximalist sensory energy of the late-1980s market, presenting an overtly primal femininity that the name itself, evoking the Italian and French word for animal, reinforced. The brand changed hands in 1990 when de Lyon filed for bankruptcy and Parlux Fragrances acquired the assets, which were later sold on to the Animale Group in 2004. Despite these transitions, the original fragrance maintained a following in the Americas, particularly in Brazil, where the house found its most durable consumer base. The brand distributed through perfumeries and department stores throughout Latin America, and its more recent Brazilian presence is handled by Elite Brands Latam. Animale's catalogue has expanded modestly over the decades, retaining oriental-floral and animalic structures consistent with the house's original character. Pricing sits in the accessible tier, making the brand a popular choice for Brazilian consumers who want a bold, long-lasting scent without luxury-tier investment.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
