Aqaba
Oriental luxury from the shores of the Red Sea.
Aqaba was founded in the United States in 1993 by Miriam Mirani, drawing its identity from the Jordanian port city on the Red Sea—a gateway between the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant, and East Africa, and historically one of the ancient world's great spice-trading hubs. The house translates that geographical richness into sophisticated oriental and aromatic compositions that reference the spice routes, red sea salt air, and Levantine flora associated with the region. Mirani assembled an impressive roster of collaborators: Thierry Wasser (later Guerlain's master perfumer), Jean-Pierre Subrenat, and Vito Lenoci all contributed to the catalog. Notable releases include Aqaba, Aqaba Blue, and Aqaba White, each exploring a different facet of the house's geographic inspiration. The house positions itself firmly in niche territory, with pricing and distribution appropriate to the segment. Aqaba is a notable example of an American niche house successfully building identity around non-Western geographic and cultural references with genuine creative ambition rather than superficial exoticization.

DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
