Arteolfatto
Neapolitan niche built on adventure literature.
ArteOlfatto is a Neapolitan niche house formally founded in 2013 by Luigi Nappo, whose family operated a small essential-oil laboratory and perfume shop in the Naples area from the 1950s onward. Growing up surrounded by aromatic materials and captivated by the adventure novels of Emilio Salgari — the Italian writer whose vivid tales of tropical seas and exotic kingdoms defined a certain Italian childhood imagination — Nappo inherited both his father's business and his instinct for translating imagined landscapes into scent. The debut collection was reformulated shortly after launch, with subsequent releases refining the brand's identity around vivid, exotic compositions. The house is registered under Luxury Perfumes srl in Milan and distributes through specialist niche retailers in Europe, positioning its fragrances as extrait or concentrated EdP expressions. Compositions draw from the tropical and maritime imagery that animated Salgari's stories — resins, spices, woods, and coastal accords that evoke colonial-era adventure rather than modern minimalism. Luigi Nappo is credited as perfumer on the majority of compositions. ArteOlfatto occupies a distinctive position in the Italian niche landscape: neither the high-gloss luxury of Milan's design sector nor the regional terroir positioning of coastal houses, but a literary, narrative-driven approach rooted in Naples's layered cultural memory.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
