Atkinsons
The British Eccentrics
Atkinsons was founded in 1799 by James Atkinson, who travelled from Cumberland to London with a recipe for bear-grease pomade and set up shop on Bond Street. Within a generation the house held a royal warrant and was supplying scented goods to the courts of George IV, William IV and Victoria. The 24 Old Bond Street address gave its name to the house's most enduring fragrance. After periods of dormancy through the twentieth century, Atkinsons was acquired by Italian group Perfume Holding in 2010 and relaunched as a niche line, with most current compositions signed by Maurice Roucel. The modern catalogue reaches back to the original Regency-era formulae — heavy on bergamot, geranium, leather and English-style colognes — while wrapping them in a contemporary niche price structure.

DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
