Aveda
Beauty rooted in Ayurvedic plant science.
Aveda was founded in Minneapolis in 1978 by Horst Rechelbacher, an Austrian-born hairstylist who drew on Ayurvedic plant science and Indian holistic tradition to reimagine professional beauty. Acquired by Estée Lauder Companies in 1997, the brand retained its botanical mission while gaining global distribution. Pure plant essences and sustainable ingredient sourcing remain the foundation, with lavender, rosemary, and exotic botanicals formulated without unnecessary synthetics. The fragrance line — built around products like Shampure, Blue Malva, and Light the Way candles — extends the philosophy into home and personal scent. Aveda was an early advocate for responsible sourcing, establishing direct trade relationships with small farmers and cooperatives. Today the brand occupies the accessible-prestige boundary, sold through professional salons, its own boutiques, and select department stores worldwide.

DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
