Balmain
Parisian couture and fragrance since 1945.
Balmain is a Parisian couture house founded in 1945 by Pierre Balmain, a contemporary of Dior whose tailored silhouettes and fondness for ornament defined a particular vision of post-war French luxury. Fragrance has been part of the maison since the beginning: Elysées 64-83 launched alongside the first collection, Vent Vert followed in 1947, and Jolie Madame arrived in 1949. The perfume catalogue has shifted hands and creative directors over the decades, ranging from green leather classics to modern department-store releases under various licensing partners. The current fashion house is owned by Mayhoola for Investments and led by creative director Olivier Rousteing, whose maximalist aesthetic informs the brand's contemporary scent direction. Balmain fragrance today reads as accessible-luxury more than couture, with the older formulas remaining the favourites of vintage collectors.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
