biehl parfumkunstwerke
An olfactory gallery for outstanding perfumers.
biehl parfumkunstwerke was founded by Thorsten Biehl in Germany in 2006 as a curatorial platform for independent perfumers working outside mainstream commercial constraints. The house functions like an artist-run gallery — Biehl identifies exceptional talent and gives each perfumer creative latitude to produce work that would be unsuitable for a larger commercial brand. Collaborators have included Geza Schön, Christophe Laudamiel, Bruno Fazzolari, and Vero Kern, among others. Fragrances are issued in slim, art-directed packaging under catalog codes (gb01, gc01, mb01) that emphasize the artwork over any celebrity or narrative. Production is small-batch and releases are sometimes limited edition. The result is a catalog of considerable breadth and depth, covering everything from austere minimalism to layered orientalism. biehl parfumkunstwerke distributes through specialist niche retailers and directly to collectors worldwide.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
