Britney Spears
The defining gourmand celebrity fragrance line.
Britney Spears' fragrance line is a celebrity perfume house launched in 2004 through a licensing partnership with Elizabeth Arden, beginning with Curious, a tuberose-magnolia floral developed by Claude Dir. Curious became the year's top-selling fragrance in the United States and, alongside its 2005 follow-up Fantasy, established the gourmand-floral template that the line has worked through ever since. Fantasy, created by Ann Gottlieb with Givaudan, leans heavily on cupcake, jasmine and musk and has spawned a long string of flankers including Midnight Fantasy, Fantasy In Bloom and Glitter Fantasy. Total sales across the brand have surpassed 1.5 billion dollars, making it one of the most commercially successful celebrity fragrance projects of the 2000s. Following Revlon's acquisition of Elizabeth Arden in 2016, the line continues under that ownership, priced for the drugstore and department-store mass market and aimed at a young, sweet-leaning audience.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
