Bulgari
The magnificent Italian jeweler since 1884
Bvlgari was founded in 1884 in Rome by Greek silversmith Sotirios Voulgaris, who opened a single jewellery shop on Via Sistina before relocating to the Via dei Condotti address that remains the maison's flagship. The brand built its reputation on a distinctly Roman take on jewellery — bold cabochon-set colour, classical motifs, the Tubogas and Serpenti collections that ran through the twentieth century. The fragrance line launched in 1992 with Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert — Jean-Claude Ellena's clear green tea composition that effectively defined the modern tea-fragrance category. Subsequent pillars include Black, the Omnia and Aqva collections, and the more recent Le Gemme series of jewel-themed extraits. LVMH acquired the maison in 2011, and the fragrance line, now licensed to Inter Parfums Italy, sits across the prestige and niche ranges.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
