Carine Roitfeld
Parisian restraint, distilled.
Carine Roitfeld Parfums launched in 2019 as the personal fragrance venture of the former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief, translating decades of aesthetic authority into olfactory form. Roitfeld's visual language — dark femininity, deliberate provocation, the effortless cool of a woman who has made up her own rules — informs every aspect of the line, from the bottle design to the naming conventions. Compositions are sophisticated and unapologetically sensual, relying on heavy resins, woods, animalic musks, and deep florals. The Parfum Extrême series released in 2019 includes seven extraits, each a collaboration with different perfumers working to Roitfeld's brief. Rather than positioning herself as a celebrity attaching her name to an already-made fragrance, Roitfeld participates in the creative process, making creative direction decisions that are visible in the final product. The house sits at the serious end of the niche market, priced and presented for an audience that follows fragrance with the same attention it gives fashion. For Roitfeld devotees and niche collectors alike, the line delivers what the fashion career promised.
