Caudalie
Vineyard science, Bordeaux light.
Caudalie was founded in Bordeaux in 1995 by Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas after a chance encounter with Professor Joseph Vercauteren, who revealed the remarkable antioxidant properties of grape seed polyphenols. The house turned wine science into a beauty philosophy, building a line of skincare and fragrance around resveratrol and vine botanical extracts harvested from Château Smith Haut Lafitte, the Thomas family's Grand Cru estate. Perfumer Jacques Cavalier crafted the core fragrance collection, capturing the dappled light of vineyard mornings, crushed vine leaf, and the sweet-dry warmth of oak barrels in compositions that feel distinctly Bordelais. The Fleur de Vigne, Thé des Vignes, and Divine fragrances remain anchors of the range. Caudalie sells through its own spas, the Vinothérapie spa at the estate, and prestige department store counters worldwide. The house occupies the prestige segment, distinguishing itself through genuine terroir rather than borrowed luxury signifiers.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
