Cave
Aged in volcanic tuff, made entirely in Italy.
Cave is a radically distinctive Italian niche house founded in 2024 through a collaboration with the Liceo Artistico Enzo Rossi, a Roman art school whose students contributed to the project's visual identity and concept development. The house's defining innovation is aging fragrances in volcanic tuff caves — the same geological material used in ancient Roman construction and found in the hillsides surrounding Rome. The process borrows from oenological maturation thinking: time spent in porous volcanic stone changes fragrance structure, rounds harsh accords, and introduces mineral character impossible to replicate through direct formulation. The result is fragrances positioned as expressions of Italian geological identity as much as olfactory compositions. Cave's approach is genuinely experimental and has attracted attention in the fragrance press as one of the more conceptually rigorous new Italian houses. Distribution is selective by design, with the house emphasizing craft provenance and limited production.
