Charles Wong
Hong Kong meets Grasse: Franco-Asian niche perfumery.
Charles Wong is a Franco-Asian niche perfumery founded in 2018 by its Hong Kong-born namesake, who established the house as a personal bridge between two olfactory traditions: the spice-market intensity of Hong Kong's street-level sensory landscape and the botanical refinement of the Grasse perfumery tradition. The brand collaborates with master perfumer Richard Asfour on its core compositions, which characteristically weave Eastern aromatics—oud, incense, exotic florals—through technically precise Grasse-style structures of woods, musks, and delicate raw materials. The house is deliberately small in scale, with limited production and selective distribution that places it firmly in the specialist niche market. Charles Wong's dual cultural identity is central to the brand story: these are not orientalist fantasies composed by Western perfumers, but genuinely bicultural explorations authored by someone who lived both reference points. An understated but respected voice in contemporary Franco-Asian fine fragrance.
