Chatillon Lux Parfums

Shawn Maher founded Chatillon Lux in St. Louis in 2015, naming it after Henri Chatillon — the explorer and trapper whose footsteps mapped the Missouri frontier. Maher came to perfumery through music, and he treats composition the way a songwriter treats a chord sequence: spare elements arranged until something unexpected coheres. His fragrances draw on St. Louis itself — the confluence of rivers, the Ozark woods of his childhood, the city's gritty independent art scene — alongside references that range from baseball cards and cedar lumber yards to fine wine and open roads. What began as a shaving-and-skincare line quickly expanded into a niche fragrance project whose eau de toilettes and parfums have earned a devoted following outside the Midwest. In 2020 Maher launched a sister label, Maher Olfactive, for more expansive, artistically experimental work.
