Claus Porto
Portuguese soap and fragrance, made since 1887.
Claus Porto is a Portuguese soap and fragrance house founded in 1887 in Porto by Ferdinand Claus and Georges Schweder, two German chemists who established the country's first soap factory. The Musgo Real men's grooming line emerged in the 1930s and remains the brand's most cited classic; the perfumed soaps, with their lithographed paper wrappers, are recognisable on sight. The production process is deliberately unhurried: bars are milled seven times, fragrance compounds are sourced largely from Grasse, and the soaps are left to dry in open air. Beyond the soap line, the catalogue includes eaux de parfum, candles, body care, and shave oils, all of which sit in the well-mannered apothecary register. Claus Porto operates from Porto and Lisbon flagships and has remained a working manufacturer for four generations.

DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
