Cloon Keen Atelier
Artisan perfumes rooted in Irish tradition.
Margaret Mangan and Julian Checkley launched Cloon Keen Atelier from a garage in Galway in 2002, taking the name from the Irish Gaelic for 'splendid meadow' — a place steeped in family memory. Mangan, a Canadian-born accountant with Irish roots, and Checkley, a set designer and model maker, brought complementary sensibilities to the project: meticulous craft and a deep respect for the landscape of the Irish west. Every perfume and candle is still handmade in Galway, using oils sourced from growers who share the founders' attachment to place. The house draws on the peat bogs of Connemara, the wild coastline, and the quieter textures of Irish domestic life for its raw material of inspiration, while never leaning on Celtic cliché. Cloon Keen became the first Irish house to win at the Fragrance Foundation Awards, confirmation that a small atelier in the Atlantic west could make work that holds its own on any stage.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
