Dark Tales
Fragrance rooted in dark history and Gothic literature.
Dark Tales was founded in 2019 by Swedish perfumer Arina P. Franzén, who built the house explicitly around gothic literature, psychological darkness, and the olfactory potential of shadow and melancholy. Franzén composes all fragrances herself, drawing thematic material from Victorian ghost stories, horror literature, and the aesthetics of northern European darkness. The house has released titles including Hemlock, Moonlit Graveyard, and The Raven's Wing, each packaged in black with graphic imagery that extends the gothic narrative. Compositions tend toward the dense and resinous — smoke, incense, labdanum, dark woods, and occasional animalic accords that reinforce the house's literary atmosphere. Franzén operates as a one-person studio, maintaining creative control and producing in small batches. Dark Tales has developed a devoted following among fragrance collectors who are drawn equally to the conceptual rigour and the genuine compositional quality behind the aesthetic. The brand distributes primarily through its own website and a small number of curated niche retailers.

Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
