Der Duft
German precision, artistic vision.
Der Duft was launched in 2020 by Anselm Skogstad, a German-American artist who trained in perfumery in Grasse before establishing this house as a vehicle for minimalist, quality-driven fragrance. The name is simply the German word for scent — a deliberate refusal of elaborate branding in favour of olfactory directness. Skogstad composes some fragrances himself and collaborates with accomplished external noses, including Miguel Matos and Anne-Sophie Behaghel, to expand the palette. The house's aesthetic is rooted in restraint: clean packaging, limited narrative overlay, and a belief that the fragrance itself should carry all the meaning. Compositions tend toward woody, aromatic, and abstract structures that reward attention without demanding it. Der Duft distributes through a small network of niche specialists and its own direct channel, maintaining a deliberately unhurried release pace. For collectors tired of story-led perfume marketing, the house offers a refreshing proposition: quiet excellence without performance.

Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
