Di Ser / ディセル
Natural perfumery from Hokkaido, in the kōdō tradition.
Di Ser is a natural perfume house based in Sapporo, Hokkaido, founded by Yasuyuki Shinohara as part of his broader Essentia company. The operation combines a pharmaceutical wing, a botanical research unit, and a working medicinal-plant farm, with a distillation laboratory built directly amid the fields so harvests can be processed without delay. Shinohara composes from natural materials alone, drawing on the Japanese kōdō scent tradition and on low-temperature vacuum extraction methods that preserve the cellular character of each plant. The catalogue includes pieces such as Kazehikaru, Sasora, and Hanamatsuri, the last of which was recognised at Barcelona's Olfactory Week in 2021. The house has supplied scent work to the Imperial Family and to one of Japan's oldest Shinto shrines. The overall posture is meditative, slow, and unmistakably Japanese.
