Diptyque
Diptyque was established in Paris in 1961 by three friends — designer Christiane Gautrot, painter Desmond Knox-Leet, and theatre director Yves Coueslant — who opened a fabric and object shop on the Boulevard Saint-Germain before pivoting to candles and, eventually, perfume. The house released its first eau de toilette, L'Eau, in 1968, a herbaceous blend that still anchors the catalogue and encapsulates the founders' taste for botanical abstraction. Today Diptyque occupies a well-established position in high-end niche perfumery, producing eaux de toilette, parfums, candles, and home fragrances developed with collaborators including Fabrice Pellegrin and Olivier Pescheux. Owned by Manzanita Capital since 2004, the brand has expanded globally while largely preserving its original aesthetic: intellectual, Parisian, and quietly assured.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
