Frau Tonis Parfum was founded in Berlin in 2009 by Stefanie Hanssen, who took the name from her grandmother and built the house around classical European perfumery references re-imagined for the city — a Berlin-themed Linde composition built on the lime trees of Unter den Linden, a Marlene Dietrich-inspired violet, the Ostalgie series referencing East German memory. The catalogue is composed in collaboration with German and French perfumers and produced in small batches in Berlin. The flagship boutique on Zimmerstraße offers a fragrance-discovery service with the full range available to test — an unusually accessible take on the niche-perfumery in-store experience. Pricing sits in the lower niche range, distribution primarily through the boutique, online sales, and a handful of European specialty perfumeries.
