Haeckels
Margate's coast in fragrance.
Haeckels was founded in Margate, Kent in 2012 by Dom Bridges, who began the project by harvesting seaweed from the beach below Margate's chalk cliffs and turning it into skincare. The fragrance line grew directly from this materials-first philosophy: everything references the North Sea coast — kelp and salt air, chalk, sea rocket, and the particular grey-green light of the English Channel. Releases including Margate and Broadstairs have become sought-after for their authentic sense of place, their use of foraged and locally sourced raw materials, and their technically accomplished balance of the marine and organic. Haeckels has expanded into a full lifestyle brand with a studio and concept store in Margate, but the original commitment to coastal provenance and responsible sourcing remains the house's most distinctive quality in the UK niche market.
