I Profumi Di D'Annunzio
Italian literary decadence as fragrance.
I Profumi Di D'Annunzio is an Italian niche fragrance collection launched in 2017 by Venetian manufacturer Mavive SpA, drawing on the extraordinary legacy of Gabriele D'Annunzio — the poet, aesthete, proto-fascist provocateur, and obsessive sensualist who made his home at the Vittoriale degli Italiani on Lake Garda. D'Annunzio was famously preoccupied with scent; his private residence is documented as being saturated with incense, flowers, and rare perfumes, making it a legitimately compelling source of olfactory inspiration. Perfumers Maurizio Cerizza and Luca Maffei interpret archival materials, poems, and the physical spaces of the Vittoriale to compose fragrances that reference D'Annunzio's documented preferences — iris, rose, tuberose, amber, and incense. The compositions tend toward an Italian literary opulence: full-bodied, slightly theatrical, and historically rich without being museum pieces. The house is distributed through Italian niche boutiques and the Vittoriale gift shop, where the cultural framing adds significant depth to the brand narrative.
