Jean-Louis Scherrer
Refined Parisian elegance since 1962.
Jean-Louis Scherrer founded his Parisian couture house in 1962 on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, building a reputation for elegant, architecturally precise gowns that attracted a wealthy Rive Droite clientele. Born in Paris in 1935, Scherrer trained as a dancer at the Conservatoire de Paris before a back injury redirected him toward fashion; he apprenticed alongside Yves Saint Laurent at Christian Dior before striking out on his own. The fragrance line arrived in 1979 with a landmark aldehydic floral, simply titled Jean-Louis Scherrer, developed with Uniperf. A second pillar fragrance, Scherrer 2, followed in 1986. Both remained steady sellers through the 1980s and defined the house's sensibility: refined, powdery, and quietly opulent. The fashion house changed hands several times after 1990 - passing through the Seibu-Saison Group and later spinning off its fragrance division - and Scherrer himself was forced out in 1992. The perfume brand has since operated under licensees, most recently associated with SA Designer Parfums. Scherrer died in 2013, but the fragrance catalogue continues to be sold under the JSB International umbrella.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
