JoAnne Bassett
All-natural botanical perfumery from California
JoAnne Bassett has been hand-blending all-natural perfumes since 1993, working from a small studio that has moved between California and North Carolina over the years. Trained first as an aromatherapist, she crossed into bespoke perfumery for clients who could not wear the synthetic-heavy department-store fragrances of the era, and her first public releases — Le Voyage and Reveiller — appeared in 2001. The house is rooted in the American natural-perfume movement: small-batch maceration, botanical absolutes and tinctures, no synthetic aroma chemicals. Bassett is among the early figures who argued that natural materials could carry serious modern compositions, not only soft herbal sketches. The range now spans royal-inspired chypres, all-natural florals, and meditative oud blends, all bottled and labeled by hand. Distribution remains direct-to-collector, with an emphasis on couture commissions and educational kits.

DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
