La Perla
Luxury Italian lingerie crafted into enigmatic couture scent.
La Perla began in Bologna in 1954, when corsetiere Ada Masotti opened a small atelier and named it for the velvet-lined cases she used to display her work. The house grew through the 1960s into one of Italy's defining lingerie makers, with embroidery and lace developed in-house at the original Bolognese workshop. Fragrance arrived later as an extension of the lingerie aesthetic, first in the 1980s and then in a more sustained line beginning in 2015. The compositions favour chypres, white florals and powdery ambers, packaged in faceted black-glass bottles that echo the brand's signature colour. La Perla has changed ownership several times since the founding family sold it in 2007, passing through private equity and into the hands of investor Lars Windhorst's Tennor Holding. The fragrance business is now run as a separate licensed company, La Perla Beauty, headquartered in Switzerland.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
