Latherati
Fragrances drawn from the library shelf.
Latherati is a one-woman artisan fragrance and body care studio founded in 2018 by perfumer Julie Grogan, who operates out of a small town in New York. The brand draws its identity almost entirely from classic literature: each fragrance is named for a character, setting, or moment drawn from the Western literary canon — Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Victorian novels, pastoral scenes — with the aim of translating narrative and atmosphere into wearable scent. Grogan creates every product herself in small batches, including solid perfumes, eau de parfums, soaps, lotions, and wax melts. All Latherati products are vegan, cruelty-free, phthalate-free, and paraben-free. The house launched twenty-nine fragrances in its inaugural year, a prolific debut that established its literary range across oriental-floral, green, and gourmand registers. The catalogue is designed for consumers who want to wear a story as much as a scent. Latherati operates primarily through its own website and Etsy, without significant retail distribution. The solo-artisan model keeps production intimate and consistent, and has cultivated a following among readers and fragrance enthusiasts who appreciate the careful literary framing that distinguishes each release.
