Layered Fragrance
Layering the scent.
Layered Fragrance — trading as SHOLAYERED — is Japan's first full-fledged domestically produced fragrance brand, launched in 2013 by Scentnations Inc., the Tokyo-based company Sho Ishizaka established in 2012 with the stated ambition of transforming Japan's fragrance industry from an import market into an export one. The house is built around the concept of layering: rather than creating singular complete perfumes, SHOLAYERED designs each scent to emphasise pure, transparent top and middle notes, intentionally omitting heavy base-note anchors so that multiple fragrances can be worn simultaneously to create a personalised composition. The result is a range of clean, minimalist, soft Japanese accords — fresh pear, bergamot jasmine, rose, muguet — that feel weightless in isolation and richly complex in combination. Each formula is prototyped more than twenty times before release.

DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
