Malin & Goetz
Uncomplicated luxury from Chelsea.
Malin & Goetz was founded in New York's Chelsea neighbourhood in 2004 by Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, a couple who launched the brand after frustration with the complexity and artificial fragrance loading of mainstream skincare. The house began as a grooming and skincare line built on simple formulas with clean, effective ingredients and a design aesthetic borrowed from the pharmacy rather than the department store — white labels, clear ingredient lists, no lifestyle photography. Fragrance expanded naturally from that foundation, with the house releasing eau de parfums including Cannabis, Dark Rum, Strawberry, and Leather that apply the same directness to olfaction: single-concept compositions with transparent material language. The fragrances are developed by external perfumers working to tight briefs that favour restraint over complexity. Malin & Goetz distributes through its own New York and London boutiques, Sephora, Space NK, and direct e-commerce, reaching a design-conscious consumer who values the brand's intelligence and modesty. The house remains one of the more distinctive American voices in the skincare-adjacent niche fragrance category.
