Mark Buxton
A perfumer's own house.
Mark Buxton is a British-born perfumer based in Paris and the eponymous house is built directly on his own compositions. Buxton trained in Germany and France, worked at Quest International and later as an independent, and is responsible for fragrances across major houses including Comme des Garçons (most of the early 2000s line, including Avignon and Kyoto), Penhaligon's, and Nasomatto. The Mark Buxton Perfumes line, run from Paris with co-founder David Chieze, gives him the rare position of author and editor at the same desk. Releases such as Wood & Absinth, Sexual Healing, Devil in Disguise, and Message in a Bottle hold to a recognisable Buxton signature: dry incense, slightly raspy woods, and unexpected aromatic flickers used as structural rather than decorative elements. The line is distributed through niche specialists across Europe and remains modest in scale relative to its critical reputation.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
