Matière Première
Revealing the raw beauty of natural materials.
Matière Première was launched in 2019 by Aurélien Guichard, a Grasse-born perfumer with two decades of work for Takasago and a family lineage in the trade. He runs the house with co-founders Caius von Knorring and Cédric Meiffret, splitting operations between Paris and Grasse, and is unusual among contemporary creative directors in that he grows his own Centifolia rose, tuberose, and lavandin on a farm he established in 2016. Each fragrance is built around a single raw material in overdose — a structural rule rather than a marketing line. The result is a small catalog where the named ingredient is genuinely the loudest thing in the bottle: Neo Vetiver Cologne, Encens Suave, Crystal Saffron, Radical Rose. The house suits wearers who want to learn a single material at a time and trust the perfumer to keep the supporting structure honest.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
