Mcm
A tribute to bold luxury travel.
MCM — Mode Creation Munich — was founded in 1976 by Michael Cromer in Munich, originally as a maker of monogrammed leather travel goods in the mould of Louis Vuitton. The Cognac Visetos canvas, with its repeating laurel-and-MCM motif, became the brand's signature in the 1980s and made it conspicuous in the era's logo-driven luxury market. The Korean entrepreneur Sungjoo Kim, of the Sungjoo Group, acquired MCM in 2005 and rebuilt distribution heavily in Asia. Fragrance came late: a ten-year licence with Inter Parfums in 2019 produced the brand's first eau de parfum in 2021, a fruity-floral composition built on raspberry, peony, and ambroxan. The fragrance category is still small relative to the leather-goods business and reads more as a logo extension than as a serious perfumery project.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
