Michel Germain
Michel Germain Parfums was founded in 1993 by the French-Canadian entrepreneur Michel Germain, a former engineer who entered perfumery after his wife told him she would only wear a fragrance that made her feel sexual. The brief became the brand: Sexual, his debut composition, launched at Hudson's Bay in 1994 and built in collaboration with the veteran perfumer Sophia Grojsman. Sexual remains the house's anchor, extended into a long line of flankers — Sexual Noir, Sexual Pour Homme, Sexual Sugar Daddy — that share the same sweet, musky, unapologetically commercial profile. The catalogue also includes lighter florals (Séduction) and seasonal launches sold mainly through North American department stores. The company operates from the Ottawa Valley and is one of the few independently owned designer fragrance houses still active in Canada.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
