Miguel Matos
Miguel Matos is the eponymous label of an independent Portuguese perfumer based in Almada, near Lisbon. Matos came to perfumery from arts and culture journalism — he writes for Fragrantica and has covered the scent world for two decades — and began releasing his own compositions in 2018. His work has been recognised at the Art and Olfaction Awards, with wins in 2020 and 2023 and several finalist nominations. The perfumes are made by hand in small batches and tend toward the difficult: dense vintage greens, animalic florals, gourmands with a sour or saline edge. Matos describes his own output as strange, rebellious, and emotionally specific, and the catalogue reads that way — closer to a perfumer's diary than a commercial collection. Distribution runs through niche European retailers and a direct-to-consumer site.

Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
