Nishane Istanbul
A symbol of the value you put on yourself
Nishane is a Turkish niche perfume house founded in Istanbul in 2012 by Mert Güzel and Murat Katran, widely cited as Istanbul's first globally recognized niche fragrance brand. The name derives from the Turkish word nişane, meaning mark or symbol, and the house frames itself as a symbol of the cultural convergence that has defined Istanbul across centuries. The founders self-funded the venture without outside investors, building from the outset on the principle that each fragrance should take a minimum of a year to develop. The catalog is organized into thematic collections: the Shadow Play Trilogy draws on the traditional Karagöz puppet theater; the Rumi Collection takes its cues from the poetry of Mevlânâ; the No Boundaries series is more abstract and internationally directed. Collaborating perfumers include Jorge Lee, Cécile Zarokian, Christian Carbonnel, Alberto Morillas, and Dominique Ropion. Fragrances are primarily Extrait de Parfum concentrations positioned at the upper end of the niche tier. Nishane distributes in more than 120 countries. HACIVAT, ANI, and HUNDRED SILENT WAYS are among its most discussed compositions, balancing Eastern materials — oud, saffron, rose — with Western structural conventions.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
