Perfumologist
Indian fragrance design studio.
Perfumologist was founded in 2018 by Mohit Khatri, positioning itself as an Indian fragrance design studio operating at the intersection of contemporary global niche aesthetics and India's profound aromatic heritage. India's fragrance culture is among the world's oldest and most sophisticated—from attars distilled in Kannauj to temple incense traditions spanning millennia—and Khatri draws on this depth while composing for a modern audience. The brand approaches perfumery with a design sensibility, treating compositions as structured creative problems rather than nostalgic evocations of traditional Indian fragrance. Khatri operates primarily through direct-to-consumer channels, building audience within the growing Indian niche fragrance community rather than pursuing international distribution. India's domestic niche market has expanded substantially since the mid-2010s, and Perfumologist reflects the ambitions of a new generation of Indian perfumers trained in contemporary fragrance methods who want to situate Indian material heritage within global niche discourse.
