Prince Matchabelli
Prince Matchabelli was founded in New York in 1926 by Georges V. Matchabelli, a Georgian nobleman and chemist who had fled the Soviet annexation of Georgia, and his wife, the actress Norina Matchabelli. The couple had opened the antique shop Le Rouge et le Noir on Madison Avenue in 1924; the perfume company emerged from custom blends Georges mixed for visitors. The crown-shaped flacons designed by Norina in 1928 became the brand's enduring signature, echoing the Bagrationi crown of the family's lineage. Princess Norina, Queen of Georgia and Ave Maria were the founding trio. After Norina sold the company in 1936, it passed to Vicks Chemical in 1941, then through Chesebrough-Pond's and Unilever, and is now part of the Perfumania-affiliated Parlux/Quality King mass-market portfolio. Wind Song and Cachet remain the legacy bestsellers.

Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
